Another new review of F.I.T.E. (in german). Although obviously coming from a very different background, Robert from "metalunderground.at" still wrote some very nice things about it: "A timeless journey through different kinds of music {…} greatly enchanting songs {…} which I could imagine working well as film-scores too." Thanks, man!

This is making the rounds right now and, unfortunately, it very much applies to Fountainhead as well because, despite having never bought FB-likes at any point, the amount of people which my posts actually reach has dwindled a whole lot due to fabricated profiles making up quite a few of the new likes. Obviously that´s very bad news, especially when you´re promoting a new record and other new releases, which then only a handful of people even knows about. So if you´ve got a minute, please read the article, watch the attached video and click "show on news feed" for this page if you haven´t already done so. Thanks!

If you're interested in the potential demise of Facebook marketing for bands and why you may be seeing much less in your news feed in the coming weeks, then come on in. This is fairly serious.

6 weeks of non-stop studio work start today. First off: Mixing an EP for prog/post-rock duo "The Astronauts Return". I have been working on and off with these guys for over 2 years, helping them to develop and record over 60 minutes of instrumental music. The band just came out of a longer hiatus and has now decided to split the material into several EPs and we´re about to wrap up the first one. Sonically, this will be my best production-work so far and I´ve also contributed with some additional guitar and keyboard tracks here and there...
Then, I´ll spend the rest of May engineering and mixing a 3 song demo/EP for a band called "Sonic Rise", hopefully resulting in some high-energy rock´n´roll.
No rest for the wicked!

Ok people, seems like there´s a good chance on a physical CD-release of "Fear Is The Enemy" coming soon. I´ve been asked to include some older pieces for more running-time, though. Would that be cool with you guys? anything in peticular you´d like to see on there? (for the uninitiated: there´s lots of old stuff on http://www.youtube.com/fountainheadtv )

Came back from musikmesse Frankfurt earlier today to find out that I passed 2k "likes" here on Facebook. Nice one, people of the internet! ;-) Apologies go out to anybody who had to suffer my bad jokes and/or non-existent guitar licks during the last few days!

Ok, gang - time for another update on the next EP!
My initial plan was to wrap up the writing-sessions before I leave for the Frankfurt musikmesse next tuesday. Well, as these things tend to go, I didn´t really manage to wrap everything up, but as of now I have 4 pieces (3 originals and one cover) fully demo´d and studio-ready and another 4 that need some more work. Not too bad for somebody who spend years on his debut EP alone ;-) So, a release in 2013 should be possible if I can sort out the financial stuff. As was the plan, this one will be quite different from "Fear Is The Enemy" in that the material not only features vocals this time, but also that it´s a lot more "concise" and focused. This time, the ambient, metal, pop, orchestral, electronic and fusion moments are worked into all of the tunes more seamlessly, rather than having their individual showcases in different songs. Sessions will commence upon returning from Frankfurt!

Checked out the track I played on for Bassist Ray Riendeau yet? Here´s what Ray had to say about it: "TCOAM is an interesting track. I had drummer Danny Handler record a solo drum piece with the idea of composing to what he came up with. This proved to be challenging but at the same time was a very interesting way for me to write. After composing bass, keys & piano parts to the drums I felt the track still needed some more depth. I enlisted fretless guitarist Fountainhead aka Tom Geldschlager and the result was great. This song reflects 3 visions coming together as one and I believe the result to be quite interesting and unique."

Great new review! "Fear is the Enemy is a veritable masterwork. It is the product of years of training from one of jazz fusions most promising guitarist. This is a shining and monolothic artistic statement that proves the enduring might that a virtuoso guitarist can have" Thanks to twoguysmetalreviews.blogspot.com!

Here´s a little studio-update for you guys! Right now, I´m working on a very interesting piece for EP 2 or 3....phase 1: "conduct" a hang-drum improvisation during a studio-session. phase 2: record a violinist improvising dozens of takes over the hang-drum solo. phase 3: import all the improvised takes in my DAW and look for moments of spontaneous beauty that sometimes occur while playing back all improvised violin takes at once. phase 4: extract and transcribe these "moments" and write a new string arrangement around them. Excited to see where this will lead.... ;-)

The fine folks at progarchives.com added a Fountainhead "artist"-page and also gave "Fear Is The Enemy" a 4-out-of-5-stars rating (according to their rating-system that means "excellent addition to any prog rock music collection"). There´s no official review for it ATM, so if somebody among you wants to help me out with one, I´d be delighted! :)

Remember the one bad review that FITE got so far? well, it has come to my attention that there has been a second (very positive) review posted at the same page, thus "evening out the score": "If you want to know how thrilling a well-made mix of ambient, athmosphere, fusion and tech-metal can be, listen to this. It´s very rewarding!" (review is in german)
